Glaucoma Unit

Glaucoma is one of the most common causes of blindness. There are two basic forms of glaucoma: primary and secondary.

While the pathological increase in intraocular pressure is decisive in secondary glaucoma, additional factors unrelated to intraocular pressure are also of importance in the primary form of the disease. Since the person affected does not usually notice the progressive damage caused by glaucoma, its early detection poses a major challenge to research into its pathology, its diagnosis and its therapy.

TEH has risen to this challenge by offering the patients a product spectrum focused on the needs of Glaucoma detection & Management.

Facilities

1. Applanation Tononometer

Applanation tonometry measures intraocular pressure either by the force required to flatten a constant area of the cornea or by the area flattened by a constant force.

2. Auto Non Contact Tonometer

The Nidek Model NT-2000 non-contact tonometer optically detects the momentary state of the cornea (applanated by air pressure) and measures intraocular pressure without touching the cornea.

3. Gonioscopy

Gonioscopy is an eye examination to look at the front part of your eye (anterior chamber) between the cornea and the iris.

4. Scanning Laser Polarimetry

GDx-VCC – Precise RNFL analysis for glaucoma case detection, diagnosis, and management

  • Clinically proven: GDx analysis has been proven to accurately discriminate between healthy and glaucomatous eyes1 and to be predictive of visual field loss2.
  • Provides unique early case detection: The GDx is the only glaucoma imaging device with a separate Screening Mode to help you identify which patients should receive a full glaucoma examination.
  • Tracks change over time: The Advanced Serial Analysis feature helps you to evaluate subtle RNFL changes so you can manage glaucoma with more confidence.
  • Fast: Typical exam time ranges from 1 to 3 minutes.

5. Perimetry

Humphrey Field Analyzer-750

  • The Gold Standard in glaucoma diagnosis and management offers the utmost in clinical confidence
  • Advanced analysis tools backed by decades of research and clinical validation
  • SITA™ SWAP software reduces blue-yellow threshold test time to just 3 to 6 minutes, providing a clinically practical tool for early glaucoma detection
  • GPA™ Glaucoma Progression Analysis software identifies clinically significant progression automatically.

6. Slit Lamp
The slit lamp is a microscope with a light attached that allows the doctor to examine your eye under high magnification.  This instrument is primarily used to view the anterior structures of the eye such as the cornea, iris, and lens.  However, with special lenses, it is possible to examine the vitreous and the back of the eye as well.

7. Optical Coherence Tomography

Stratus OCTComprehensive glaucoma and retinal imaging and analysis.

  • Provides in vivo, cross-sectional images and quantitative analysis of retinal features to optimize the diagnosis and monitoring of retinal disease and for enhanced pre- and post-therapy assessment.
  • Provides retinal imaging and analysis to facilitate a more complete assessment of pre- and postop cataract patients for better patient management.
  • Images and measures RNFL and the optic nerve head to aid in the detection and management of glaucoma.
  • Compares retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and macula thickness to an age-matched normative database.
  • Stratus OCT cross-sectional images are valuable for clinical evaluation of macular holes, macular edema and other retinal pathologies.

7. Ophthalmic Laser (NIDEK YC-1400 ophthalmic YAG Laser system)

The NIDEK YC-1400 is the new disruption laser from NIDEK designed in particular for applications in posterior capsulotomy (post-cataract therapy) and iridotomy. However, the YAG laser is also used for trabeculotomy, anterior capsulotomy and for IOL polishing.

9. Surgical Microscopes
It is surgical microscope that can only be described as absolute state-of-the-art for ophthalmic surgery. Its wide range of uses meet the demands placed on it by surgeons and it offers new functions to improve depth of field, resolution and contrast.
