Acrysof IQ (Aspheric IOL)

A Leap Ahead in Enhanced Clarity and Image Quality
It's a little-known fact that, in spite of all the advances in eye care technology today, even healthy eyes still contain some imperfections called higher order aberrations.
One type of higher order aberration common to cataract patients are spherical aberrations, which can lead to a gradual reduction in vision acuity and function.

An aberration is an irregularity in the shape of the eye's refractive surface that can distort vision. As you get older, your eye's lens gets thicker and rounder, causing image quality to deteriorate. Spherical aberrations are generally associated with :
  • Double vision
  • Blurriness
  • Halos
  • Loss of contrast
  • Poor night vision
The AcrySof® IQ lens is designed to reduce spherical aberrations, increase contrast sensitivity, and improve functional vision. The overall result of the AcrySof® IQ lens offers these advantages over traditional spherical cataract lenses :
  • Enhanced clarity
  • Improved image quality
  • Filtered blue light for rich, vibrant color
The Acrysof® IQ lens is among the family of AcrySof® IOLs that are the most widely used for cataract surgery, with more than 30 million implanted worldwide.

Contrast sensitivity is the ability to see objects that may not
be outlined clearly or don't stand out against a background. Contrast sensitivity often declines along with age. Cataracts,
in particular, can affect contrast sensitivity.
A person with low contrast sensitivity may have difficulties with :
  • Seeing traffic lights or cars at night
  • Reading in low light conditions
  • Tired eyes from watching television
It's important to keep in mind that a person with poor contrast sensitivity, due to cataracts, may still test well on the 20/20 visual acuity chart but still experience blurred, cloudy vision.
  • The AcrySof® IQ lens, in a controlled, randomized clinical study, showed a statistically significant improvement in mesopic contrast sensitivity over the control lens at 90-120 days after the second eye implant. (Mesopic vision is a combination of well-lit conditions and low light conditions.)
Functional vision is an important consideration for cataract patients, especially in low visibility conditions, where seconds can matter in recognizing danger.

The AcrySof® IQ lens offered statistically and clinically significant improvements in night driving test conditions that simulated city and rural settings under normal, glare and fog conditions.

In these tests, the IQ lens performed functionally better in 34 of 36 conditions tested. The performance in 12 of these conditions was statistically significant, with the greatest advantage observed in detection and identification of city pedestrians and rural warning signs under glare and fog conditions.

The improved functional vision of the AcrySof® IQ lens gave respondents greater time to take appropriate action.
Ask your doctor if the AcrySof® IQ lens is right for you.
